Pre-Installing Media Files
Pre-installing the background pictures and sounds for use with the stand-alone client program will make your initial visits to Studio Dust more rewarding by not having to wait for each picture to load as you move from room to room. We have assembled archives with pictures and/or sounds for popular rooms at Studio Dust for you to download and install.

The first archive includes the pictures for the following rooms at Studio Dust Palace.

Studio Dust Porch

The Studio Barn

Studio Den

Art Studio

Music Studio

Dance Hall

Comedy Club

The Basement

Nature Trail

Peaceful Path

Fall Stream

Relax in the Woods

Path to Romance

Tunnel of Love

Lover's Waterfall

The other archives contain pictures for many of the Studio Dust Island rooms and pictures and sounds for the Haunted Lighthouse rooms.

Follow the steps, below, to download and install the picture files after you have installed the Palace software.

  1. Make sure you have a proper program for extracting the files.

The archive file is in ZIP format. To extract the picture files you will need an unzipping program. You may already have a tool to do this. If not you should download and install one. For Macintosh you might try ZipIt or Stuffit Expander. For Windows you could use PKzip or Stuffit Expander or Winzip.

  2. Download one or more of the archive files.

    Studio Dust archive file.

    Studio Dust Island archive file.

    Haunted Lighthouse Pictures archive file.

    Haunted Lighthouse Sounds archive file.

If your browser does not know what to do with the file, ask it to save it to disk in a location that you'll remember where to find it.

  3. Extract the picture files from each archive.

Your browser may have been set up to automatically start the extraction program. If not, you will have to start the extraction process yourself, using your unzipping program.

  4. Create the media folders for Studio Dust Palace

If you have already visited Studio Dust Palace then you probably already have the folders as created by the Palace program. If not you should create the folders as shown in the pictures below.

Macintosh Palace Folder in List View

For Macintosh use the Finder to navigate to the Media folder inside your Palace application folder. Open the Media folder and look for a folder named Studio Dust. If you do not have one create a new folder and name it Studio Dust. Now open that folder and create two folders inside of it, one named Pictures and one named Sounds.

Windows Palace Folder in Windows Explorer

For Windows use Windows Explorer and navigate to the Media folder inside your Palace folder. Open the Media folder and look for a folder named Studio Dust. If you do not have one create a new folder and name it Studio Dust. (Note: if you are using an older version of the Palace client, prior to version 3.5, this folder will be named StudioDu.) Now open that folder and create two folders inside of it, one named Pictures and one named Sounds.

  5. Install the extracted files into the Studio Dust media folders

O.K., we're almost done. You have the downloaded files extracted from the archive and you have the Pictures and/or Sounds folders inside the Studio Dust media folder.

Navigate back to where you extracted the files. Picture file names end in .gif or .jpg. Drag all of the .gif and/or .jpg files and move them into the Studio Dust Pictures folder.

Sound file names end in .wav, .mp3 or .mid. Drag all of the .wav, .mp3 and/or .mid files and move them into the Studio Dust Sounds folder.

Voilla! If all went as planned, the pictures for the rooms listed above should be ready and waiting for you to see when you enter them at Studio Dust.
